ROBERT COOPER, MD, MBA, MPH

Dr. Cooper brings unique expertise in Utilization Management and Population Health forged from working for both the payor and provider. Working as the Medical Director of the Ohio State University Health Insurance Plan, he manages a team of nurses and pharmacists to manage trend below national averages. As Director of the Physician Advisor Program at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, he works with an experienced team to review a multitude of admissions for proper ALOC placement. Finally, as a practicing ED physician, he is on the front line of the changing field of healthcare.

This unique perspective enables him to identify population health opportunities and work with diverse groups of physicians and other health care change agents. He is especially interested in wellness and holistic care as it relates to improving the health of populations and controlling employer health care costs. He is the PI on a “Connect and Collaborate” grant awarded by Ohio State to explore the impact of providing fresh food and wellness coaching to employees. He has been honored as a 2018 40 under 40 Columbus award winner. He was named the Ohio Free Clinic Physician of the Year for his work leading the Columbus Free Clinic.

Dr. Cooper completed his medical school and residency in emergency medicine at the Ohio State College of Medicine. He was Chief Resident his last year of residency. He also has received an MBA and MPH from the Ohio State University
