Dr. Maria del C Colon-Gonzalez completed her medical school at the University of Puerto Rico. For residency training, she joined Penn State University Family and Community Medicine Program in Hershey, PA. After residency, she joined Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University where she completed a fellowship in Faculty Development for Global Health. After completion of her training, Dr. Colon-Gonzalez joined the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Medical School. She works both in undergraduate and graduate medical education in hopes of advancing primary care for this region. Her particular interest include medical education, health equity and social medicine and lifestyle medicine. She believes in empowering patients as the greatest asset for wellness. She is an active member of AAFP, STFM, and WONCA and holds national and international leadership positions in these organizations.
