Dr. John McHugh, MD, FACOG is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist practicing in Southern California. After finishing his BA at Columbia University and his MD at the Harvard/MIT MD Program in Health Sciences and Technology, he fulfilled his lifelong dream to live in California, and completed his residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He was awarded The Outstanding Teacher Award by medical students for three years running.
Since completing his training, he has lived in Southern California, focusing on community medicine while maintaining academic appointments at UCSD and UCI. His passion is communicating and adopting best practices in everyday health care both by engaging medical an nursing leadership and focusing quality assurance.
He has served as the Department Chair at Scripps Mercy Hospital as well co-chair of the California Preconception Health Council and currently serves on the Executive Board of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for the state of California.
Hen enjoys roughwater swimming, mountain climbing and downhill skiing. He is fluent in Spanish and has done a number of media appearances on woman’s health issues.
